Photo services charge a premium for passport prints because of the layout, not the paper. This tool does the layout: your finished ID photo tiled onto a 4×6 or A4 sheet with hairline cut marks, at true 300 DPI. Print it as an ordinary photo anywhere, cut on the lines, done.

How it works

Worth knowing

The economics are simple: a 4×6 glossy print costs pocket change at any kiosk or pharmacy, and a 35×45 mm photo tiles six times onto it with room for cut marks. The identical photos that cost fifteen dollars as a "passport service" cost fifty cents as a layout you brought yourself. Since applications regularly ask for two identical photos — and consulates sometimes keep both — spares from one sheet cover the next form too.

The sheet is generated at 300 DPI with the photo cells placed at their exact physical millimetres — a 51×51 mm US photo occupies precisely 602×602 pixels of the sheet, a 35×45 exactly 413×531. Corner cut marks sit outside each cell so scissors follow a line without slicing into the image. Cells repeat the same source photo because that is what regulations require: identical means identical, not two frames from the same session.

The single instruction that decides success at the printer: 100% scale. Kiosk and driver defaults love "fit to page" and "fill", both of which rescale the sheet and silently break the millimetre geometry you verified. On a home printer, also switch off any margin-driven shrink; borderless 4×6 mode on photo paper reproduces the sheet exactly.

Matte versus glossy varies by authority — several prefer matte or lustre for reduced glare, and none of the major ones object to it — while plain office paper fails everywhere. If the acceptance office is picky about stock, matte photo paper is the safe middle.

A 35×45 mm photo tiles six copies onto one 10×15 cm print with cut marks to spare — so the marginal cost of a regulation passport photo, printed at a kiosk, is under ten cents.

What this tool will not do

  • It will not fix a photo whose geometry is wrong — tile a compliant crop from the passport maker, not a raw snapshot.
  • It cannot control your printer's scaling; if "fit to page" is on, the millimetres on paper will be wrong and that is a driver setting, not a file problem.

Questions people ask

How many passport photos fit on a 4×6 print?

Six copies of a 35×45 mm photo, or four of a US 2×2, with cut marks between them. A4 fits correspondingly more — useful when a whole family is applying at once.

Can I print passport photos at a pharmacy kiosk?

Yes — that is the intended path. Order a standard 4×6 glossy or matte print of the sheet file, insist on 100% scale (no cropping or fill), and cut at home along the marks.

Why are my printed photos slightly the wrong size?

Almost always print scaling: "fit", "fill" or printer margins resized the sheet. Reprint at exactly 100% / borderless. The file itself is generated at true 300 DPI millimetre geometry.

Glossy or matte paper for passport photos?

Both are broadly accepted; matte or lustre reduces glare under office scanners and is preferred by some authorities. Office paper is universally refused — use photo stock.

Do all copies need to be identical?

Yes — where two photos are required they must be from the same exposure. This sheet repeats one source image precisely for that reason.
